Matt Akin

Legislative & Regulatory Advocate

Matt Akin serves as Legislative and Regulatory Advocate at the Association of California Life and Health Insurance Companies (ACLHIC), where he represents member companies on legislative and regulatory matters affecting California’s life and health insurance marketplace. He has more than a decade of experience in California politics and public policy.

Matt began his career in California state government while attending college, working as an intern for a California State Senator. After graduating, he joined an insurance trade association in Sacramento, where he served as Political Action Committee Membership Director. In that role, he worked with industry professionals across the state to strengthen participation in the association’s political action committee and to promote the importance of engagement in the public policy process.

Prior to college, Matt served five years in the United States Marine Corps, where he deployed twice and held leadership roles including Team Leader and Platoon Sergeant.

Matt earned a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science from the University of California, Davis. He currently resides in Sacramento.
